Principal’s Update

Dear Winthrop Families:

I hope everyone had a great holiday weekend. I’d to thank those who attended are Coffee Morning on Tuesday. I’ve included a link to the presentation on our Winthrop website. Also, below is a link to Ms. Winter’s, our new school counselor, individual website with contact  information.

October is National Bullying Prevention Month and on Wednesday October 25th, Winthrop Elementary will be participating in Unity Day. Students are encouraged to wear orange to show unity against bullying and for acceptance, kindness and inclusion. All students will be participating in Project Connect where we will be creating a school-wide paper chain that promotes ways we can promote kindness and acceptance- this is a visual representation of uniting for a common cause! We are very excited for this activity and can’t wait to hang the chain in the hallway to remind us to include others and promote kindness daily.

Now that we’ve had several weeks of school to get to know our schedules and establish our routines, it’s time to turn our attention to our Elementary Student Handbook. You can find an electronic copy on our website.

Please review our handbook with your child. In addition, this past spring the School Committee approved new district homework policies for the elementary grades, K-5. These expectations can be found on page 33. Once you’ve reviewed the handbook with your child, please go to the link below for instructions on Aspen to update contact information, media release and that you have read the Student Handbook.

Finally, check out our REACH Stars for the week of October 2nd. Our students earn their REACH Stars for demonstrating one of our core values: respect, effort, achieve cooperation and honesty. The students’ names are announced during our Friday morning announcements.

Have a great week.
