Principal’s Update

Dear Winthrop Families:

I hope everyone had a great weekend. It’s hard to believe the holiday season is upon us. A reminder, the last day of school before the winter break is Friday, December 22nd. Students will be dismissed at 12:00 p.m. (Noon) Lunch will be served.

The Melrose Public Schools in conjunction with the Melrose Human Rights Commission are sponsoring a writing contest to honor the legacy of Dr. King.  Each winner will be honored at the annual Human Rights Commission Martin Luther King, Jr., dinner in January. Entries must be received by December 20th as noted in the directions. Please see the link for directions and prompt for grades K-5

A reminder, report cards for grades 1-5 will be sent home on Tuesday, December 19th. K report cards will be sent home in early February, 2018.

Take a look at November’s Melrose Curriculum Newsletter. This one focuses on math and specific strategies to support your child at home and in the classroom.

Our annual Winter Concert is around the corner. Students, K-5, will present their choral concert on Friday, December 15 in the APR. We will once again split our parent audience to accommodate all in the APR. Families with last names starting with the letters A-L should attend our 8:30 show. Families with last names starting with a letter M-Z should attend our 10:00 a.m. show.

Also, for our fifth-grade families, the MVMMS administration, staff and students welcome families of current fifth-grade students to come and learn about the Melrose Veterans Memorial Middle School and tour the building this Thursday, December 7th, 2017, at 6:30 p.m. The information session will begin in the auditorium with tours of the building to follow. Both students and parents/guardians are welcome to attend.

Finally, check out our REACH Stars for the week of November 28th. Our students earn their REACH Stars for demonstrating one of our core values: respect, effort, achieve cooperation and honesty. The students’ names are announced during our Friday morning announcements.

Have a great week.

John Maynard, Principal
