Principal’s Update

Dear Winthrop Families:

We’re finally getting back into our routine after our two snow days last week. On Thursday, January 25th, I’ll be leading Kindergarten tours for prospective families for the 2018-19 school year. We’ll have three different tour times: 5:30 p.m., 6:30 p.m., and 7:30 p.m. Families can choose any one of the times. These tours are for parents only. Please share this information with any families on your may block that may be interested in attending the Winthrop next school year. Also, the district will be offering a Kindergarten Orientation for any K families for next year at the middle school on Wednesday, January 17th at 7:00 p.m. The Orientation will provide an overview of the registration process for families with children entering Kindergarten for the 2018-19 school year.

It’s hard to believe but the MCAS testing window is approaching. Testing is for students in grades 3-5. The ELA testing window: April 2-May 4th, 2018. The math testing window: April 3-May 25th. 2018. Science and technology testing window (5th Grade Only): April 4th-May 25th.  I’ll be sending out the individual grade-level testing schedules in the next couple of weeks.

Finally, check out our REACH Stars for the week of January 2nd. Students earn our REACH Stars for demonstrating one of our REACH core values: Respect, Effort, Achieve, Cooperation and Honesty. Our next REACH Assembly is this Thursday, the 11th. We’ll be recognizing our students for our core value achieve. Our kindergarten and first-grade teams will be hosting.
